A few plain readings. Astoria is younger than many Oregon coast towns, and a little under half of households rent. Most of the owner-occupied homes are valued at $300,000 or more. Very few homes are seasonal, so most are lived in year-round. The income estimate has a wide margin of error, so read it as a range, not an exact number.
The Census counted 10,181 residents in 2020. Portland State University's Population Research Center certified 10,247 for July 1, 2025, a 0.6 percent rise.
How we got these numbers
- Population, households, tenure, income, home value, age, home-value brackets and housing vacancy come from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates for 2020-2024, tables B01003, B11001, B25003, B19013, B25077, B01002, B25075 and B25004, read through Census Reporter for the city (Census place 4103150).
- The share aged 65 and over is from the ACS age-by-sex table, as compiled for this project. The 2025 certified estimate is the Portland State University figure as listed by the League of Oregon Cities.
- Business counts are from Census ZIP Code Business Patterns 2023 and are by ZIP code, not by city limit. They leave out businesses with no paid employees.
