The Column and the Maritime Museum in Astoria
Two of Astoria's best-known visitor places are both worth checking on their own sites for current hours and rules.
The Astoria Column
The Astoria Column stands on Coxcomb Hill at 1 Coxcomb Drive. Its official site says it was dedicated by the Great Northern Railway in 1926, describes its artwork as a unique work of Northwest art, and says the park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wikipedia describes it as a 125-foot tower that visitors can climb for views of the town and the river. The site is published by the Friends of the Astoria Column. Hours, parking and gift shop details change, so read the plan your visit page before you go.
The Columbia River Maritime Museum
The museum's site calls it the official Maritime Museum of the State of Oregon. It describes a collection of seafaring vessels, maritime artifacts and fine art, with exhibits on the Columbia River Bar, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Columbia River Bar Pilots. The Lightship Columbia, a floating lighthouse, is part of the visit. The museum is at 1792 Marine Drive. See its visit page for current hours.
